OES teamwork achieves 5 years without lost time injury

February 3, 2015, (Lagos, Nigeria): Oando Energy Services Limited (“OESL”), an Oando PLC subsidiary and Nigeria’s leading indigenous operator of swamp drilling rigs services has successfully achieved five years of continuous operations without Lost Time Injury (LTI) on its flagship rig, ‘OES Teamwork’. The ability of the ‘OES Teamwork’ crew to maintain five years of operations without witnessing an LTI is a reflection of Oando’s commitment to service excellence to both its internal and external stakeholders.

LTI is a measure of injury sustained on the job, capable of preventing a worker from performing or continuing a task or resulting in operational downtime. It is an oil and gas industry benchmark that evaluates adherence to safety and environmental requirements in the course of operations. As a result, LTI is a critical Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for Oando’s conformity with best practices within the oil and gas industry.

The ‘OES Teamwork’ swamp rig has successfully drilled, completed, and worked on 19 Wells, since it commenced operation in 2010. The rig is the first 3,000 HP modern swamp drilling barge to operate in the Niger Delta, and is equipped with 15,000 psi Blowout Preventers (BOP), which are designed to drill High Pressure/ High Temperature (HPHT) wells to depths of 30,000 ft.

Commenting on the accomplishment, OESL CEO, Mr. Bandele Badejo said: “a hearty congratulations to the ‘OES Teamwork’ team on the achievement of five years without a Lost Time Incident (LTI). This noteworthy achievement is a validation of the safe work culture and compliance to EHSSQ processes on our rigs notwithstanding a rig’s operational status. I commend the team’s unrelenting commitment in maintaining an incident free rig in spite of challenges instigated by the current downtown in the industry.  We envisage a positive outlook for the industry in the second quarter of this year and urge our rig teams to continuously maintain the implementation of world class safety standard activities will pick-up thereby easing our cash-flow challenges.”

Oando PLC’s Chief Environmental Health Safety Security and Quality Officer, Mr. Chjioke Akwukwuma also praised the achievement saying: This is a significant and laudable feat in the history of OESL and within the Oando Group.  It is further proof of our dedication to always inculcate an enduring safety culture amongst our employees, and our exemplary adherence to best practices.  We will continue to integrate safety processes in our day-to-day business operations across all our locations, and where possible improve on these processes so that we consistently surpass past achievements.”

Oando PLC has robust policies and procedures which cover product quality, operational safety, the environment, staff health, and security and emergency readiness, to ensure that all its operations meet international safety requirements. The Company ensures the participation of all employees in safety issues through platforms such as raising job safety observations, raising safety improvement suggestions, raising safety non-conformities, sharing safety tips, appointment of health and safety representatives, and employee involvement in risk assessments.
