Oando Energy Services Limited (“OESL”), an Oando PLC subsidiary and Nigeria’s leading indigenous operator of swamp drilling rigs services has successfully achieved five years of continuous operations without Lost Time Injury (LTI) on its flagship rig, ‘OES Integrity’. The ability of the ‘OES Integrity’ crew to maintain five years of operations without witnessing an LTI is a reflection of Oando’s commitment to service excellence to both its internal and external stakeholders.
LTI is a measure of injury sustained on the job, capable of preventing a worker from performing or continuing a task or resulting in operational downtime. It is an oil and gas industry benchmark that evaluates adherence to safety and environmental requirements in the course of operations. As a result, LTI is a critical Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for Oando’s conformity with best practices within the oil and gas industry.
Commenting on the accomplishment, Oando Energy Services Limited CEO, Mr. Bandele Badejo said: “This exceptional achievement is a validation of the safe work culture on our rigs. I commend the commitment, dedication, and effort of the ‘OES Integrity’ team in maintaining its focus on operational excellence, in spite of the downturn in the service industry. With this milestone we have convincingly demonstrated that we can consistently operate our rigs incident free with the proactive implementation of our EHSSQ and operational processes.”
The ‘OES Integrity’ swamp rig has successfully drilled, completed, and worked on 18 Wells in the course of its campaign. The rig is the first 3,000 HP modern swamp drilling barge to operate in the Niger Delta, and is equipped with 15,000 psi Blowout Preventers (BOP), which are designed to drill High Pressure/ High Temperature (HPHT) wells to depths of 30,000 ft.
Oando PLC’s Chief Environmental Health Safety Security and Quality Officer, Mr. Chjioke Akwukwuma also praised the achievement saying: “The ‘OES Integrity’ crew has worked for 1,823 days without any disruption to operations resulting from personnel injury – this is a significant and laudable feat in the history of OESL. It is further proof of our dedication to building an enduring safety culture and adherence to best practices. We will continue to integrate safety processes in our day-to-day business operations across all our locations and where possible improve on these processes so that we consistently surpass past achievements”.
Oando PLC has vibrant policies and procedures covering product quality, operational safety, the environment, staff health and, security and emergency readiness, to ensure that all its operations meet international safety requirements. The company is passionate about all forms of safety and in an effort to inculcate this culture amongst its employees, training, regulatory certifications, internal awareness campaigns and a “stop work” policy where employees are empowered to stop work if they observe an unsafe condition is encouraged. An Annual EHSSQ Week is also held companywide to deepen awareness and strengthen an incident-free work life culture
